Theory & Technique
The smash is the most powerful and exciting shot in badminton. The preparation is nearly identical to a clear — turn sideways, racket back, non-racket arm up for balance. The key difference is where you contact the shuttle: slightly in front of your body (not above your head like a clear), and you snap your wrist sharply downward at contact. This creates a steep angle that sends the shuttle diving toward the floor. Power comes from the full kinetic chain: legs push, body rotates, shoulder drives, elbow extends, and wrist snaps. Don't just arm it — use your whole body.
Fun Fact
The fastest badminton smash ever recorded was 493 km/h by Satwiksairaj Rankireddy in 2024, making badminton officially the fastest racket sport in the world!
