Theory & Technique
The leg glance is the ultimate touch shot. It requires minimal effort but maximum skill. When a ball is directed at or just outside leg stump, the batter strides forward in line with the ball, presents the bat face, and at the last moment uses a gentle wrist turn to redirect the ball behind square on the leg side. There is no big swing — the ball uses its own pace and the batter simply deflects it. The key is to stay side-on, keep the head still, and let the wrists do the work. Trying to hit the ball hard will ruin the shot; the beauty of the leg glance is in its subtlety.
Fun Fact
VVS Laxman's leg glance was so effortless that bowlers would sometimes not even appeal when the ball raced to the boundary — they genuinely didn't realise he had hit it!
