Theory & Technique

Fast bowling is about rhythm, timing, and using your whole body as a kinetic chain. The gather phase loads your momentum — drive the front knee up high while reaching up with the non-bowling arm. At front-foot plant, land with a braced (firm) front leg; this converts your forward momentum into upward energy through the bowling arm. The bowling arm should be as straight and high as possible at release — aim to release from your highest point. Pull the non-bowling arm down hard into your hip to generate rotation. Follow through with your chest over the front knee, bowling arm sweeping across your body.

Fun Fact

Shoaib Akhtar holds the record for the fastest ball ever bowled in cricket at 161.3 km/h (100.2 mph), set in 2003. To deliver at that speed, his arm was rotating at over 30 revolutions per second at the point of release!
