Theory & Technique
Spin bowling is the art of deception and patience. Unlike pace bowling, speed is not the weapon — turn, flight, and accuracy are. The approach is short and smooth, focused on balance and rhythm rather than speed. The gather phase is light and controlled, hands together at the chest. At the plant phase, the front arm reaches up and points at the batter to help with alignment. The bowling arm comes over the top, high and smooth. The wrist and fingers do the work of spinning the ball. Follow through fully and rotate your body — a good follow-through helps accuracy and prevents injury.
Fun Fact
Shane Warne's famous 'Ball of the Century' to Mike Gatting in 1993 spun so much that it pitched outside leg stump, drifted through the air, and hit the top of off stump. Gatting stood there in disbelief — he still calls it the best ball he's ever faced!
